1. Eco-friendly materials push for sustainable design
Sustainability is no longer confined to nature conservation and wildlife rescues. We can all do our part—even with our choice of interior decor. And what’s more, sustainably-made or sustainably-sourced home decor is usually of higher quality than its mass-produced counterpart.
That said, interior design trends in 2023 point to the growing use of Earth-friendly materials like cotton, bamboo, reclaimed wood, wild grasses, and recycled plastic and metal. Other sustainable home design trends include energy-saving lighting, water-saving fixtures, and other low-impact, recyclable elements.

7. Dark academia style makes its way to the mainstream
The last decade of TV has brought us many shows that speak to the dark academia style: The Queen’s Gambit, Sherlock, Enola Holmes, The Alienist, and Peaky Blinders, just to name a few. While we enjoyed the aesthetic of tweed upholstery and suits, gothic elements, and a love of literature, we didn’t really have a solidified name for this style until recently: dark academia.

Wallpaper trends for 2023 indicate that floral coverings are not going anywhere. Neither are floral curtains, rugs, and other large pieces of home decor. The key to using florals in the home is to use them as an accent on a wall, window, or room. This allows the print to shine independently, and not blend into the background.

10. High-quality vintage pieces
Luxe, vintage home decor and furnishings are part of the micro luxury interior design trend. This means splurging a little on a statement piece such as an exclusive, vintage Stag chair or a hand-embroidered quilt.
But high-quality and vintage don’t always mean pricey. Some places you can snag premium pieces are at secondhand shops, auction sites, yard and estate sales, and in secondhand sell groups online. The caveat with vintage pieces, though, is that they may need some care and attention when you first get ahold of them, but the price for quality is worth the effort.
11. Rounded silhouettes and curves are in
This interior design trend gained traction in 2022, but we expect it to make splash in 2023 as well. Sloping chair backs, curved sofas, oval coffee tables…it’s easy to incorporate softer silhouettes into your home design. Other ways to include rounded shapes are through textile prints, light fixtures, tabletop decor, and artwork.
