Lois from Urbana, IL ordered our Pacific Blue curtains. This print arose from a serendipitous encounter with ancient Japanese pottery which inspired Anisha to translate that blue and white effect into a print. A little bit of Zen, a little bit of the coast and a lot of style- that’s Pacific Blue!
Lois’s testimonial is below the pics.
Hi Monisha, We love the curtains. I had gotten two samples that were completely different and we loved this design. These patterns can be seen in the painted pottery of many cultures but since we are both Classicists, philology and archaeology, the concentric lines and wavy lines and dots, even the shells, remind us of ancient Minoan, Mycenean and Greek vase patterns. I am about to order one more smaller panel size. We have done some remodeling in an 1927 bathroom and have some not so standard sizes to deal with and I am adapting these curtains to fit. Maybe I’ll be ordering a bedspread in this Pacific Blue pattern sometime in the future! Thanks so much! ~ Lois
I am no expert in either philology or archaeology but I can see why Lois would think the print reminds her of ancient Greek pottery. Take a look at the image on this site – it dates back to 1700 BC. The wave like patterning, the boat motifs were popular in a culture which was dictated by its isolated island geography.
If you browse the web you will likely find more examples of ancient Japanese pottery like the ones which may have inspired Anisha to translate that blue in a linen print.
Well, in any event, we love this print!
Thanks Lois! We loved reading your insight into this.
