We know our prints travel far and wide and grace some lovely homes across the planet. But every now and then we see our prints in unusual settings and situations which not only take us completely by surprise, but thrill us no end.
Thanks to one of our customers, we found out that Memories of Shalimar, that gorgeous soft green and gold print, found a place on the sets of a renowned play in Boston! Harold Pinter’s production of “Betrayal“, features this print prominently in several scenes. Since the customer owns a tablecloth she recognized it immediately, and thoughtfully dropped us a line to let us know.
Harold Pinter has been described as one of the 20th century’s most influential dramatists, and Betrayal is the story of an adulterous affair backwards, so that we begin with the bleak burnt-out embers of the relationship and gradually progress to its beginning nine years earlier, creates a fascinating web of ironies and insights.
Do you see it on the stage set below? Draped across the bed on the left? It seems to be glowing and shimmering in the dark, somber set.
A couple more…
Betrayal is set in London and Venice during the years 1968 to 1977. Memories of Shalimar with its stylized fan like oriental floral motifs rendered in deep midnight blue, bitter chocolate and outlined with a gold metallic paste, has a definite edgy and glamorous vibe to it and seems to blend well with the dark, moody flavor of the play!
If there are any Bostonians reading this, do let us know if you decide to go see the play and tell us how our linens fare! 🙂
