If you live in a colder climate, you might need a curtain that protects you from the chill. And if you have a larger-than-average window, you need larger-than-average window treatment. While we do take custom orders, we recognize that can be a pricy option. This is where a DIY no-sew curtain hack comes to the rescue!
Yes, you can absolutely make curtains without a sewing machine! Here are a few of the creative–or dare we say, genius–ways that Saffron Marigold customers used our Indian bedspreads to make their own DIY no sew curtains.
What you need to make no-sew curtains
To make no-sew curtains, you obviously need some kind of fabric with which to fashion them. That’s where we come in! Did you know that our lightweight bedspreads make beautiful, easy, DIY no-sew curtains? Many of our customers use our cotton bedspreads as creative solutions for their window treatment needs. They truly make for a great window treatment, especially if you need to cover a larger window or prefer a thicker curtain.
Here’s what you’ll need to make no-sew curtains of your own:
- Curtain rod
- Curtain clips/drapery clips (about 10 for each twin-sized panel, and about 15 for each king-sized panel)
- A lightweight bedspreads (you may need more than one depending on the size of your window–keep reading!)
How to make curtains without sewing
To make curtains without sewing, follow these incredibly easy steps:
- Measure your windows from where you want the bottom of the fabric to hit, such as the floor, below your windowsill, etc. Be sure to include an allowance for the curtain clips/drapery rings.
- Install the curtain rod.
- Attach the clips to the top of the bedspread, starting with the end. Add a clip to to each end and one to the middle.
- Next, simply space the clips apart evenly (every 3-4 inches) so that the fabric will hang evenly and won’t bunch up. Note: you may have to readjust the clips once you’ve hung the window treatment.
- Slip the clips over the curtain rod.
- Hang and enjoy!
DIY no sew curtains for a patio door

Hi, we did receive the bedspread and it was turned into a patio door curtain by attaching clip on rings to it and hanging it on a decorative rod. It looks very nice and much cozier than those plastic office looking patio panels that seem to be the only alternative.
I just bought a decorative rod and clip rings and hemmed all 4 edges of the spread so the length would be right. I do have a 5 foot patio door, not sure how it would fit on a 6 foot one, but I think it would still be fine as there is plenty of fabric.
